I am not posting a desperate cry here for some Tender Loving Care. What it is, is a desperate cry for some kind soul who will lend me Ishiguro’s Never let me go, which I need to read.(Disclaimer : No relation to winning or not winning the Booker) The need to read doesn’t mean it is prescribed reading or something, just that I need to read it, and somehow will not shell out the Rs. Five-hundred-odd required. I don’t know what it is in my genetic make-up that prevents me from crossing the magic five hundred barrier. (Ok, I made an exception for Kafka on the shore a couple of months ago, but then that was Murakami.)
Someday no doubt when the Human Genome Project is finally completed, scientists will triumphantly pull out that gene from its hiding place. Some enterprising soul will possibly also come up with a genetically-modified more spendthrift version of the book-buying gene and cross-sell it along with GM options for those Marilyn-Monroe-legs and Monalisa-smile. Until then, I remain, my shortlegged, bespectacled, unsmiling, miserly self. If you still want to lend me that book though…

awww, baby! I would so lend you any book you could possibly "need to read" if only I read your sorta books :D. But I do have this hideous book by Sidney Sheldon, 50 bucks only, I thought I was being extremly wise but apparently they were giving it away for free, cuz nobody would ever reach the end of it. Yeah, so you can have it. It's horrible though.
i don't mind lending it to any shortlegged, bespectacled (there is a cure for that thoug) miserly woman, but the unsmiling is a total no go. and of course there has to be an assurance that i will get it back! with most friends, i get my books and dvds back because of their greed of wanting to borrow more... don't know if it will hold for you as well.
in any case i am off to japan on monday - so it will have to happen only once i get back, next sunday. besides there is some f-up with flights so i might have to fly in to chennai, which means another day gone... so in the mean time mebbe u will find some one else who doesn't mind lending books to short-legged, bespectacled, miserly women...
hmmm...I see i am yet to find the perfect lender!
well, is there something called perfection? life would be so sad if u started finding perfection everywhere! till the time you find perfection there is still somewhere to go.... anyway, u can take me up on my offer about a week from now... if u haven't gone and bought the book by then or managed to procure it thru some other means or found that perfect lender...
