Your poison comes wrapped in...

Paperback or Hardcover?

Paperback

Usually cheaper than hardcover edition. Convenient to carry around. Lighter to lift in the case of thousand page tomes.

The negatives –

Tend to get dog-eared.
Doesn’t come back when lent since everyone assumes it’s just a cheap copy.

Hardcover

More Expensive. Can be a weight-lifting exercise on occasion. Take up a lot of space on the shelf.

The positives –

Better display value.
Comes in handy as a blunt weapon when required (Overstaying guests, Intruders, In general irritating specimen).
Smell good – good as in that woodsy, dry, warm smell you get from the binding.
Useful as a weight to smooth out wrinkled objects.

Anymore, Anyone?

Yes.

You get the new book smell off the paperbacks too. And dog-eared-ness is a positive thing to me. Just shows it's loved to bits. Apart from that, paperbacks are just too comfy. You can't really read hardcovers while lying on the bed. It pokes you in places you'd not liked to be poked in.

oh so your grouse is that they do not poke you in the places you'd like to be poked in... btw, which are the places you'd like to be poked in by books?

Ok, now I have images about books poking me. Live books going pokety-poke. Surely that's not good for me.

Aran, my post (with a little support from alchemist) is making you delusional...I think I am getting into effective writing now :-)

Lady, believe me, I don't need help getting delusional. I do it all by my lonesome. :D

Btw, I am a compulsive commentor. So anytime you get sick of me, feel free to tell me to go. You can even use stronger language.

on the same lines as Aran! and there's the problem of hardbounds snapping back shut the moment you leave them alone.. as if they dont want u to read them...

You can take the paperbacks to your class and read it during a boring lecture sitting at the back benches.wud b to much of a risk with hardcovers. On the other hand, hardcovers topped with a soft handtowel makeup for a good pillow when u need a nap...
